In today’s media, we are inundated with pictures of supermodels and skinny happy women. Why? Because the media believes that sex sells and by seeing skin it leads you to think about that. However, for the media, they believe that to be positive. I’m not sure they see the negative side of it.
You see, every time a commercial, movie, or television show comes on that portrays a woman in a way that isn’t the norm. According to an article written by Today the average size of a woman is a size 16. So, if the average size is a 16 then why in the world are we made to view women who are not even half that size? We are constantly made to feel as if who we are and what we look like isn’t good enough.
Don’t get me wrong. We should all be comfortable in our body, but we shouldn’t be made to feel like we have to look a certain way. A decision to change how we look should come from an inner desire of wanting to be confident in who we are and feel better about our own view from the mirror. If we want to have some type of reconstructive surgery done like breast augmentation, from places like the Bellesoma Method then it shouldn’t be because we have this misery about us that wants to fit in.
As Mom’s, having a child typically does quite a number on your body. Most of who we were before, in terms of our outer beauty, drastically changes. No longer are we looking at tight skin, smooth skin, firm buttocks, and glowing skin. Instead, we look in the mirror and see a woman who is exhausted, has possibly some stretch marks, and some excess skin from bringing a beautiful life into this world. Then we spend hours trying to keep this sweet treasure alive, only to neglect the person we once were. Why? Because our priorities have changed. Now, we seek to give love to someone else other than ourselves or our significant other.
Never as a mother should we be made to feel less than, because we don’t look like some photoshopped or starved television celebrity. Yes, a healthy body is achievable, but remember there are so many factors that go into how that works for each person.
The Bellesoma Method believes that everyone should look beyond the outer beauty. They are offering a scholarship program for all students looking to attend college but don’t have the financial resources to do so. We all have to remember we are more than just our appearance. Inner beauty and outer beauty must have a balance. Seeking to better ourselves on the outside needs to be from a desire to love ourselves and discover who we are. Just as an education is a desire to start shaping the person who you will be in adulthood.
Mama’s you are enough and don’t let anyone else tell you different.
