We live in a world where emergencies happen just about every minute. Whether we are looking at a national disaster, international, or local…emergencies are all too real. You see it in the news every single day. Severe weather, mass shootings, power outages, or even in some of the remote parts of our world…we see countries being annihilated through war.
As a mom, I can’t lie and say that I have spent a whole lot of time thinking about what I would do if a true emergency arose and didn’t have something we needed.
I sat down the other day and gave a little bit of thought to what would happen to our little family if we ran into a real emergency. I started doing some digging and realized we had nothing. Now, I am not a super planner, but I do at least keep a sort of running list in my brain and sometimes put that down on paper.
After some research, I ended up on a government site called Ready.gov and this site gave me so much good information to look over. It started by advising that I simply needed a plan! Go figure?!
Make a plan that included how we would receive alerts, what our shelter plan was, evacuation route, and our family communication plan. On top of that, it discusses any specific household needs, like disabilities or pets.
I didn’t realize that I hadn’t even come up with a decent plan for our two furbabies. Yes, I knew our children would be with us…but I hadn’t planned for the pets. We love our pets! I am talking we have an almost 14-year-old boxer who is literally my shadow. I couldn’t imagine leaving her behind for any reason…she would be confused, scared, and alone. Our cat Peanut definitely wouldn’t survive. He has been with us since he was only a few days old and has NEVER ventured a day outside.
Through a lot more research I came upon Keith Bansemer of My Patriot Supply. Keith has many years experience in marketing and it working with a company that understands the need to be prepared and ready for any situation that might arise. It is so real that anything can happen. When I think back to the almost 20 years I have been out of school now and what has happened it would include:
- 9/11 the attack on the Twin Towers and other parts of the United States
- 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood in Texas
- 2013 Boston Marathon bombing
- 2015 military recruiting center attacked in Tennessee
- 2016 ISIS sworn member wounds and kills people at a gay nightclub
- October 2017 pickup truck plows through bicycle path near new World Trade Center
- December 2017 homemade pipebomb in a walkway below Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York
Those aren’t even all of them…but just a few.
Not to mention we have weather emergencies. What about the increase in hurricane-related emergencies and how that can affect things like water, food, and emergency vehicles getting to where they need?
My Patriot Supply was able to provide water filtration systems for residents in Florida back in September when Hurricane Irma hit. Water is one of those things we take for granted. If you run out of water, your water doesn’t run, or the water system is contaminated you can’t live more than 3 days without water. It is a necessity…your body is made up of at least 60% water!!
Get busy and make your preparedness plan today…your family and future may depend on it.
